During our last trip to Guatemala, one of our participants
was able to have 10 handmade fleece blankets donated. They were passed out to families who probably didn’t have any blankets.
Though Guatemala is closer to the equator and you would expect it to be
hot, the areas we work in are actually cold at night due to the villages being
in the mountains. The blankets were a
great gift for these families!
So…it started the wheels turning…. We have started making blankets! J They are each about 1.5 yards long, and are
made without any sewing…just lots of cutting and tying. Each one costs about $15. Our goal is to make 100 blankets before our
next trip in November.
We have a Girl Scout troop who is going to make 15. It is a great project for a book club or Sunday School class. The blankets are easy to make – and anyone over the age of about 6 can help with them.

Jonah and Allison both turned 7 in February. They decided to have a joint birthday party
and instead of asking for gifts, they asked their friends to donate school
supplies or the cost of a blanket. Each
has a goal to have 15 blankets sponsored.
So far they are each at about 11 blankets sponsored!
