Guatemalan Cloth
Dear Friends,

The countdown is on for our November 2012 Trip!  8 days and counting...

The next update we send should be from Guatemala...where we will get to see the reality of our hard work leading up to the trip.  We expect to touch several hundred lives through our service projects.

To get the latest information leading up to the trip, please take time to read below...
The Group & Updates

There are 12 of us leaving for Guatemala on Saturday, November 17th.  I am sure the week will have much in store for us - not only physically, but emotionally as well.

We would appreciate it if you would keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we experience all that is to come.

The following people will be on the trip:

Tom H. and son, Jacob
Paul O., and son Eli
Kelly G.
Amanda M.
Christi R.
Becky F.
John and Sandy G.
Matt  and Angela G.

We will do our best to provide updates throughout our week, but sometimes internet service can be spotty.
Thankful For...

This is the month to remember what we are thankful for.  Our family actually does this most nights at dinner time.  It can be a quick reminder of all that we are fortunate to have - physical items, friendship, health, experiences, and so much more.

To each of you, we are thankful for your support - whether in monetary donations, items for garage sales or consignment sales, buying the Guatemalan handicrafts, your thoughts and prayers, and friendship as we have embarked on this journey to serve others!
Come See Us at Local Craft Shows

We will be at the Christmas Craft Fair at the Expo Center off of Clinton Hwy.  Our space is L6.  Stop by if you get a chance!

We will be busy with various craft shows in the month of November & December.  We will have a great assortment of jewelry, textiles, ornaments, baskets, clay items, and so much more - all handmade in Guatemala.  All proceeds support our service work!  When we get back from Guatemala - we will have lots of new items!

We would love to see you at one of them!

Pre-Trip/Packing Party -
Saturday, October 27th

In the late afternoon on the 27th, the group got together to go over last minute instructions and to pack our suitcases.  The group learned what to pack, that you can't flush toilet paper in Guatemala, and heard about our itinerary, amongst lots of other information.

Then we put out all of our suitcases and started packing!  I was holding my breath that everything would fit!  It all did - including the 2 Santa suits.  The good news is that Tom H. doesn't have to wear one of them on the plane since they fit in the suitcases. :)

Even our youngest helpers got into the spirit of volunteering.  Allison and Eli were happy to pack Beanie Babies and whatever else we passed their way.

After finishing the packing, we enjoyed a taco dinner with everyone including several participant's families that joined us.

7.4 Earthquake in Guatemala

Many of you may have heard that there was a large earthquake in Guatemala this week.  Thankfully, the area that we work is a couple of hours away from the main area affected. The lake area was not affected beyond the 30-40 seconds of shaking.  However, Mayan Families, our host organization, headed out at 4:30 this morning to see what they could do to help in the devastated area. They have Shelterboxes that are provided by the Rotary Club.  Each Shelterbox can shelter and feed a family for a few weeks to months.  Some even live in the Shelterboxes for several years.  They are also taking food, clothing, and blankets.
